UPDATE
Andrew gets his magnifying glass out and provides some details in the comments about the location of this picture.
I found a photo of a parade on Center St. in Provo in the George Edward Anderson Collection at BYU which references the Sutton Cafe. Owen LeBaron is perhaps the same one who later became a polygamist. Thanks, Andrew! I see Woolworth next to the Sutton Cafe, so perhaps that is in the BYU collection, too? Also, I was assuming that "Dad" meant J.R., but I don't think I could recognize him. Can anyone else tell for sure? Finally, I have at least one more picture of Owen LeBaron that I will try to get posted soon.
Ellen comments that "Dad" is Grandpa, not J.R. (Grandpa's father), and confirms that Andrew was correct about Owen's polygamy.
This is a picture of Owen LaBaron and Grandpa Howard Stutz. They were friends. Owen's brother Art was Grandpa's roommate at BYU. And yes, Owen did later become a polygamist. Thanks, Ellen! Perhaps Owen, Art, or Perry Tippet are some of the as-yet-unidentified people in other pictures from Grandpa's days as a student?

ReplyDeleteIt's a younger picture of J.R. than I've seen before, aside from his mission photo but it is definitely him.
